SPOILER ALERT!
At 5-7, the Falcons still have life for a Division Title.Falcons fans! I got some good news for ya! The NFC South Title is still a possibility for us to obtain! Not a good time to use this GIF.Falcons fans! I got some bad news for ya! You get to play the Packers on Monday Night Football. Cry Me A RiverSo after ten plus weeks, the NFC South is still the worst thing in Human History. And even though I wanted us to tank earlier in the season ( I blogged about it in October), now I just want the Falcons to beat the Saints on the road and win the division. I don't think this team this year will get very far in the playoffs ( bad coaching, bad players, bad Santa), but beating the Saints in the "Thuper Duper" Dome should not be a problem. What will be a problem is the game coming up on Monday Night, AA-ron Rodgers has been spectacular at home this year, after beating the Patriots last Sunday, I started to wonder how bad the Falcons will ( and they will lose) get beat this Monday. Look, I'm all about being optimistic, but the facts are the facts: The Falcons only have one win outside of their division and the only reason why the Cardinals loss was the absence of Carson Palmer at quarterback. Rodgers for the Packers is healthy and prime for a MVP performance against a Falcons defense that is ranked dead last in total yards and 22nd in total points. So you know what that means: Bless This Beating That The Falcons Are About To Receive. If the Falcons have any pride, they should only lose this game by 21 points, I think Matty Ice will be able to play well, but the points barrage by the Packers will be too much for them to keep up. Final score 42-21 Packers.
As the regular season comes to a close, the Heisman race is starting to heat up. HOT WHITE GIRL NOT INCLUDED. Once again it is time to debate about the most prestigious trophy in "amateur" sports. The race for the Heisman Trophy is really exciting this year, and I want give you guys my opinion on who is going to win it. Now I know that season is far from over, but I just could not wait to talk about this. When I was a little boy, I used to play NCAA Football all the time and the one game mode that I always played was Race For The Heisman. Every year when the new game came out, that was the only mode that I played all the time. But enough about my crazy anti-social life, lets talk about the five hottest candidates for the Heisman: NUMBER FIVE: FAMOUS JAMEIS When it is all said and done, the story of Jameis Winston will probably be a great movie filled with a lot of ups and a lot of downs. Right now, his time at Florida State University on the field has been magical. While his numbers may not be as great as his numbers from his freshman year, the fact that he is still undefeated (23-0) is worth at least an invite back to New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation. I think the two things that will prevent him from winning it again will be the off the field issues and the decline in his stats. Remember, the only player to ever win the trophy twice was the great Archie Griffin in 74 and 75. NUMBER FOUR: RAKEEM THE DREAM Rakeem Cato has everything a player needs to win the Heisman: Big numbers (2613 yds, 27 tds, 7 ints) check! Undefeated team (Marshall is 10-0) check! Wins over teams in the Power Five Conferences (nope) check...wait The fact that his team has not played a single team from the Power Five Conferences is the reason why his team is not ranked in the College Football Playoffs Poll. His numbers are great, but the competition he has went up against is not as tough as the other candidates, but he should at least get an invite to New York. NUMBER THREE: OH BOYKIN! While his career has come out of nowhere, Trevone Boykin's stats (3021 yds, 24 tds, 5 ints) and his chance to lead his team to a Big 12 title is the reason why he could win the Heisman this year. While his team did struggle in a win against Kansas last week, Boykin has a chance to impress this weekend by lighting up the scoreboard against an improving Texas Longhorns team. NUMBER TWO: GONE GORDON After rushing for 408 yards against Nebraska ( I thought head coach Bo Pelini was known for defense) the buzz around Melvin Gordon is getting louder and louder. In today's era of throwing the ball all over the field, it is refreshing to see Wisconsin still stick to the running game and Melvin Gordon is doing what Wisconsin football running backs do best, run behind that big offensive line! While their chances of making the college football playoffs are slim (the Badgers are ranked 16th) Melvin still has chance to win the Heisman if he can get to the magic number of 2000 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns (1909 yds 23 tds) NUMBER ONE: SUPER MARIOTA! With his team ranked number two in the country and his touchdown to interception ratio is phenomenal (29 tds, 2 ints) all Marcus Mariota has to do is win out the regular season and win the Pac-12 championship game. The Heisman Trophy over the last decade has become a trophy that is awarded to the best quarterback on the best team in the country (Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Sam Bradford, Troy Smith) and Marcus has a chance to join this list. Most voters for the Heisman also like to vote for a player that is capable of playing in the NFL at a high level, and I for one believe that Marcus will be successful in the NFL. So if don't like the list you can always kiss my black (don't say it man, you need more readers), you can always tweet me or leave a comment!
Why this game will be the best of the year. Before I get into my analysis on this big rivalry game, I gotta talk about this stupid weather! I hate being cold, and the one thing I hate more than being cold is the stupid weather people making cold jokes while I'm trying to figure out if I need to wear a blanket outside or go kill a Grizzly Bear so I can have some freaking fur! But I know one thing, the offenses for Georgia and Auburn will "heat up" the field this Saturday while the defenses for both teams will not be able to catch a break. Both teams are 7-2 and both teams will be fighting for their playoff lives this weekend. The other thing that is surprising about this game is that both of these teams have suffered unbelievable losses this year to below average football teams. The Florida loss for Georgia was one of those things that just made me want to throw up, Georgia was so bad in that game and now their playoff destiny lies in the hands of Missouri losing a conference game so that Georgia can have the tie-breaker. Watching Texas A&M beat Auburn was shocking as well. True Freshman quarterback Kyle Allen went into Auburn and won that game like a boss! So now both Georgia and Auburn will without a doubt in my mind put everything on the line to survive this weekend. UNLESS YOUR THE NCAATodd Gurley is finally free to ball this weekend! Yes I know that it was his fault that he was suspended for a month, but all of that is in the past. Gurley along with Nick "Chubby" Chubb will be the reason why Georgia will win this game. I know that Mark Richt wants to have a balanced offense, but when you have two guys at running back that could play in the NFL right now and your at home in front of a hundred thousand UGA fans, you gotta give the people what they want and that is to Run the Damn Ball! I believe that Gurley and Chubb will both have to carry the ball at least twenty five times in this game. Running the ball this much will not only give us a better opportunity to score, but Georgia will also have control of the clock and give Gus Malzahn's fast paced no huddle offense little time to be productive. At some point, Mark Richt has got to show the UGA faithful that he is a national championship coach that can win big ball games. He is a good man, but his coaching has been wildly inconsistent over the last seven years. When expectations are high for Georgia, Mark Richt finds a way to screw it up, but when nobody expects Georgia to be good, Mark Richt finds a way to make a bad team good. For once I just want Mark to win when he is suppose to win a take this team to a national title and that starts this weekend or those discussion boards will be crawling with "Fire Mark" posts. Ultimately I think Georgia will win this game by three points. Maybe 38 to 35 or 45 to 42 I really don't care what the score will be, I just hope Georgia finds a way to win this game! BRACE YOURSELVES FOR THE THUMPING OF AUBURN.THREE AINT ENOUGH MAN I NEED FIVE! For those of you that did not get the reference, congratulations for not being a wrestling fan. This weekend is a big one for college football, even though the playoffs is not until January, there are five "elimination games" this weekend that will make the playoff picture a lot clearer. From the SEC to the PAC 12, this is the perfect weekend to not have a social life (like me!) and sit your butt on the couch and drown your sorrows in beer and wings. 5. The Irish vs The Sun Devils It's a clash of Heaven and Hell.Well not exactly, but this is a game that I am looking forward to watching. Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has developed himself into a pretty good passer, but the defense of Arizona State has given up only 36 points in the last three games. I still believe that the Irish will win this road game, but the running game for ND will have to show up for them to win. Notre Dame wins by two touchdowns. 4. The Bears vs. The Sooners Should have seen it coming Sooner. After getting demolished last year by Baylor, Oklahoma is looking for payback. Over the last few seasons, the strangle hold that the Sooners have had in the Big 12 is slowly slipping away. Bryce Petty is one of the best players in the country right now, and if he wants to win the Heisman, beating Oklahoma on the road will be a huge step towards winning it. The Sooners still have national championship aspirations, but the inconsistent play of quarterback Trevor Knight (12 TDs 8 Ints) could hurt their chances. In the end, I think head coach Bob Stoops will out coach Art Briles by having a better defensive scheme. Oklahoma by three. 3. Buckeyes vs. Spartans I said Frozen is better than Brave Fool! It's a rematch of the 2013 Big Ten Championship, and now that this a divisional match, I think it is safe to say that the winner of this game will beat Nebraska in the Big Ten Championship game. J.T. Barrett has stepped up and played well for the Buckeyes after Braxton Miller went down, the team has scored 50 points or more in five of their first eight games. While Conner Cook is having a good season at quarterback, it is the big play ability of Spartan receiver Tony Lippett that is leading MSU. Lippett has dominated this year with six 100 yard receiving games with 9 touchdowns to go with it. Man I love Urban Meyer, but I feel that Mark Dantonio is on a mission this year to prove that Michigan State is ready to take over the college football world. Michigan State wins by ten. 2. Kansas State vs. TCU Ow! My Ball! Another Big 12 battle makes the list (no SEC bias here!) and this one is more important. with TCU ranked 6th and KSU ranked 7th, a spot in the playoffs is right there for the taking. For TCU, Trevone Boykin is on Beast Mode this season with over 2400 passing yards this season, but he had his worst game last week in a win against West Virginia with a season worst 40% completion percentage. The defense for the Kansas State Wildcats have only given up 30 points one time this season and quarterback Jake Waters has proven to be a "game manager" for the Wildcats. It is a home game for the Horned Frogs, but Kansas State will win by a touchdown. 1. Alabama vs. LSU AKA: THE TOO DRUNK TO CARE BOWL. I know, I know. I saved the SEC for last, so I guess I do have an SEC bias. Remember earlier in the season when I said Alabama fans had nothing to worry about? Well Nick Saban somehow someway has got his team in a place to win out and make the playoffs. Tide QB Blake Sims has only thrown five interceptions this season and WR Amari Cooper has over 1000 yards receiving for the season. LSU will only have pride to play for this year, making the playoffs will be difficult with two losses this year. While the defense for the Tigers is the backbone of the team, the quarterback play of both Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will be the reason why Alabama wins by a field goal. It is a night game in "Death Valley", but I think we all remember that one time when Bama did this : ENJOY THE GAMES!IT JUST GOT REAL. I know that he will not be back until the Auburn game, but I am pretty confident that Georgia's chances of winning without him is still very high. But with The Gurley Man being back to action after the NCAA suspension, I truly believe that this is finally the year that Mark Richt does not screw this up. I know, I know, he's a good man, he's good leader, so what's my problem with Mark Richt: This moment will forever haunt my tormented soul (even more than that time I watched an episode of Glee) forever and only a NATIONAL TITLE will wash Richt's sins away. Hell I named the site after this moment because all they had to do was SPIKE THE DAMN BALL! But I wont be bitter about this moment anymore though (liar) as long as the Dawgs do what their suppose to do and win out from this point forward. DAMN MUSCHUMP, CHILL! During his "illustrious" tenure as the head coach of the Florida Gators, Will Muschamp has a record of 25 wins, 19 losses, and 400 atomic meltdowns. But the one thing that will get him fired after this season is that he has never AND THE ROCK MEANS EVER, beaten the Georgia Bulldogs. At a school like Florida where rivalries like UGA and FSU are paramount to Gators fans, a losing streak like this is unacceptable, but I love it so keep on sucking eggs Will! The only thing that concerns me with the game this weekend is how much time the starters will have to play. If everything goes like it should, this game will be over by halftime. I'm actually more concerned more about Kentucky the following week. The Wildcats have played above their normal expectations this year and pushed Mississippi State to the limit before losing the game at the end because of miscues. With this game being on the road and still without Gurley, the outcome will be a lot closer than what I would want it to be. I still think that the offense will be able to do enough to hold off Kentucky, but it will be our defense that will and must win the game for the us. Speaking of Defense: LET PRUITT DO IT! Let me just say that this guy above me has been the greatest thing to ever happen to Georgia Football ( okay maybe like the 40th best thing). With Pruitt as the defensive coordinator, the defense has shut out two opponents this season and for the first time in a long time, the front seven of the defense has been very aggressive when it comes to getting after the quarterback. I DO NOT TRUST THIS PLAYOFF THING.As far as teams in the SEC goes, all they have to do is win the conference and their automatically in the four team playoffs, but my main problem is the committee picking the other three teams. How in the Hell are you going to pick between 4 other conference champions of the power five and an independent in Notre Dame? Will the committee be dumb enough to put multiple SEC teams in the playoffs and alienate the rest of the country? What about the non-power 5 conferences? I know their schedule is weak sauce, but Marshall is undefeated and their not even ranked by the committee! As a fan of the SEC, I want to face other schools from other conferences in the playoffs so that the SEC can continue to prove their dominance over other conferences. This has nothing to do with sports, but man I love Halloween! Later Marks. It's Lebron James and everyone else when it comes to the championship this season. You know what time it is.... I know that song is old and corny, but I still love to hear it every year when the NBA season is on the horizon, and this season is going to be a really exciting one in my opinion. For starters, lets examine how the 2014 free agent period went in the Eastern Conference. Well it wasn't that brutal, but I know D-Wade and Bosh must have took it personally when Lebron went back to Cleveland. Look, I understand why he did it, the Miami roster was getting up there in age and the last thing Lebron wants to do is get beat again in the Finals with a squad that can't even beat an OLDER roster like the Spurs. And speaking of the Spurs, when are those old bag of bones finally gonna fall apart? I mean they have been together since the Ming Dynasty or something like that. Look, I respect the way they play the game, but somebody needs to check if these guys and coach Pop are Vampires sucking the souls out of little children (or maybe they just know how to take care of their bodies and they work well as a cohesive unit on the court). With "The King" being back in Cleveland, this gives him the chance to not only win with a younger, more talented (but inexperienced) roster, it also gives him the chance to get the media critics off his back about being "The Man" on a championship roster. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love have been good so far in their young careers, but now the expectations have elevated, this team has to be willing to follow Lebron and it starts with those two. And if you still believe that Lebron would not have won a title without Wade and Bosh, you are correct. HOWEVER, the leader of that team from the first title to the last one was Lebron because I said so ( and the fact the he led the Heat in points, rebounds and assist for most of his time in Miami). KOBE KNOWS THAT HE IS CRYING ON THE INSIDE. As far as the West goes, who knows, just follow your nose! I'm going to stop rhyming now. There are a lot of teams in the West that really have a shot at the title this year, but if no one is able to stop the San Antonio Crypt Keepers (its funny because their old), I have no choice but to defer to the current champions. So what about other awards like the MVP and Sixth Man of the Year? Well I really don't care about that, but I do care about my 2014-2015 Harpe-Star Squad (you like that? I made it up all by lonesome). Here are my five guys that I would love to have on my team. Point Guard, Point Forward, Point Whatever! The Lebron love doesn't stop in this blog does it? Well he's my guy, and I want him to play point guard. Now that he's got a shooter in Kyrie and a big man in Kevin, his stats will look more like a facilitator than a scorer. Exactly what I was thinking Russell Westbrook, so I'll put you at the shooting guard spot. The Thunder head coach Scott Brooks has to wise up and realize that this man's best attribute is his ability to be a "streaky" shooter. I'm pretty sure if he only had to focus on being a two guard, he would have a better career average than just 20 points a game. No worries Kevin Durant! Now that your on the 2014-2015 Harpe-Star Squad, Your skills as a scorer will finally be used properly! I know he won the MVP last year, but just imagine the numbers he would put up if he had a "true" point guard like Lebron feeding him the ball. And dirty you shall be on this team Joakim Noah. A guy like Noah is an essential part to a championship team, I want a guy that is willing to do the dirty work like play defense, get rebounds, and not worry about his offensive touches. He will also be a guy that will get under the skin of other players because of his unique style of play (and looks!). FLY PELICAN FLY! Anthony Davis is the future of this league and it is a shame that he has to play in a dumpster wasteland like New Orleans. Until the day comes when he is playing in a bigger market, Davis will have to settle for the 2014-2015 Harpe-Star Squad (this name is really lame) and be the Center that everyone thought Dwight Howard would be. See John Wall, that's the type of attitude that kept you off the list (and the fact that you can't stop turning the ball over). I'm no expert when comes to predictions, but l like to pretend that I am. If am right about the Spurs and the Cavs meeting in the Finals, I will definitely be rubbing it in all of your faces! Until then, if your football team sucks this year (Falcons), hopefully your NBA team fills the void of expectations (The Hawks won't be any better)!
I think this sums up the Falcon's 2014 season thus far. Well that felt more like the 2013 season, I think this is a better summary. After watching the game last Sunday, I came to two conclusions: 1. I really don't like mascots at all. 2. I want the Falcons to tank the rest of the season. The Mike Smith Era is done and I wish the season would hurry up and end, all the hope and goodwill that he and General Manager Thomas Dimitroff built up is gone and I want those guys gone. You Two Need To "Rise Up" The Hell Outta Here. The only good decision that these two guys have made together was drafting Matt Ryan, other than that, be my guest to question every other decision these two have made as far as drafting, coaching, and free agency is concerned. I really felt that these two guys where going to "turn the corner" for the Falcons. Being a fan of the Falcons over the past ten plus years has been hard, to watch this team go from the era of the "Dirty Birds" to the electric Michael Vick Era came with a little good and a lot of bad. I'm getting a rumbling in my stomach from watching this team (or maybe its gas?) and the last thing I want to do is watch the Falcons lose every week. Ugh, I Think I Hear My Legacy Going Down The Drain. When it is all said and done, Matt Ryan will go down as the greatest quarterback in Falcons History, but that will not mean anything to me if his championship trophy case is empty at the end of his career. The Falcons play the Ravens this Sunday, and if there was ever a time to start debating whether Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco is the best quarterback from the 2008 NFL Draft, this would be it. When you look at there numbers, both quarterbacks are pretty even, the only thing that puts Flacco ahead of Ryan is the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The thing that makes me angry about the whole situation is that Matt Ryan is carrying this team AND NO ELSE IS WILLING TO PICK UP THE SLACK! True.I guess I should not be surprise that the party is over, I just didn't expected to be this soon. We (Hell yeah I say we, I spend too much time and money on this team!) were one play away from being in the Super Bowl two years ago, but now it feels like this team got too many holes at key spots to do anything! What's worst is that the NFC South is really weak this year, the Bucs are 1-5, the Panthers are not consistent, and the Saints smell like sewage water (even when they win they still smell like sewage water). IT'S YOUR MONEY, NOT MINE. Ultimately, is going be up to Arthur Blank to clean house (you know with him being the owner and what not), but a significant move like firing people probably will not occur until after the season is over. Look the Falcons are 2-4 with ten games left to play, even if they were to go on some type of "magical" run and make the playoffs, teams like the Cowboys, Eagles, Packers, Niners, Cardinals, Lions, and Bears (Oh My!), would be waiting to kick their ass in the playoffs! JUST DO IT...BADLY. So why not just tank the season, lets put Matt Ryan on Injured Reserve (just say he's got Ebola), get a 2-14 record, get a top 5 pick in 2015 NFL Draft and hire a new coach and GM (I'll take a wheel and stick at this point) so we can start over because the champion window is closed for this team. Man, I need something to cheer me up. That's Better.
Remember when Nick Saban compared losing to Louisiana Monroe in 2007 to America being attacked on 9/11? So I guess this past weekend was like the Allied Forces storming the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from the Nazis? (History Knowledge Drop FTW!) Now before you Saban lovers come at me with your pitchforks and machine guns, what I'm about to type is NOT about the dynasty in Alabama being over, but because of the "MONSTER!" that Nick Saban has built over his eight years at Alabama, any loss (like the one against Ole Miss last Saturday) from this point forward will be viewed as "THE END OF THE NICK SABAN ERA GAME!" Nick Your Not Helping. This happens to all the great dynasties in sports, whenever there is a team that is far superior than all the rest, the other teams forget about winning championships, and just focus on beating that one team. In this case with every team in the SEC West looking like a contender for the college football playoffs (Except Arkansas, I don't trust Bret Bulimia) this year, Alabama's reign at the top just got a lot more crowded. "I'm Not Bulimic, I just can't keep a lead in the fourth quarter!"Hey that's pretty funny Bret, you should do a standup routine (or a situps routine). Anyway, even though Alabama over the last few years have gotten the best players in recruiting, the talent doesn't stay around for more than three years because of the NFL. Meanwhile, teams like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M have been waiting for this moment when the gap between talent and experience is too large for Bama to dominate as they usually do. Getting off topic for a moment, this might be the year that Les Miles starts looking at that Michigan job (Brady Choke is done) if things at LSU don't get better (and by better I mean not losing another game this year by 34 points). They are already in the hole with a record of 0-2 in the division and if they slip up against Florida, the "FIRE MILES" chants might start "roaring" (its funny because there the tigers and tigers roar. get it?). Really Not Helping Your Cause Right Now.Getting back to Saban, it is not the end of era or the dynasty because "The Process" that Nick always talks about has gotten him three national titles in four years. I just think that this is the year that we get more games where Alabama is gonna have to win in the fourth quarter instead of just "Roll-Tiding" over the competition as usual ( Get it? Its funny because Alabama's mascot is an elephant and elephants roll....yeah that's not funny). MALZAHN PUNCH!!!Where does Auburn fit into the equation? Well right now they still look like a national championship contender. And even though the Iron Bowl will be in Tuscaloosa this year, Auburn looks like the better team and winning that game on the road would not be a surprise in my eyes. WHEN YOU SEE THIS FACE, THAT MEANS I JUST KILLED YOUR TITLE HOPES! While the competition in the SEC West is at the best its been in years, Alabama still has the one thing that other teams don't (MORE MONEY THAN GOD?). No, a coach like Saban that rarely gets beat twice in the regular season by inferior talent. So calm down Tiders, drink some beer, eat some wings, take a dump if need be, because Alabama is still a tough team to beat. Plus it could be worse, you could be Georgia fans, but that's a blog for another day.
